Everything starts somewhere and for West Barn Pygmy Goats it was with a chili plant that was given as a gift. We quickly got the gardening bug and run out of space in our small suburban garden. This prompted us to move from the city to the outskirts of Morpeth in beautiful Northumberland.
With our small piece of Northumberland it didn’t take long before chickens were purchased, then came along pygmy goats and shortly after Texel sheep.
West Barn Pygmy Goats is run by Brian and Sam who are now goat obsessed. You will often find us in the field with a goat in tow or in our arms. We would not change it for the world, even when covered in mud or have goats climbing all over us or even on our shoulders!
When we arrived in 2011 we only had two pet rabbits. We now have an ever growing herd of animals that now includes 50 coloured Ryeland’s, 70 Texel sheep, 200 Lyenn sheep and 68 pygmy goats. We have since outgrown our first location and have now taken on a bigger project of our new farm. Our herd consists of our boys Jelly our floaty cloud billy, Rameses the billy that doesn’t share food, Chilli our up and coming billy and our oldest boy Merlin who still thinks he’s a young stud muffin.
The rest of the herd then consists of 60 girls each having their own personalities and quirks. From the queen Lilly who rules the herd to our cutest babies of which 29 were born this year.
We are currently the largest herd in Northumberland and you can meet all the goat on our experiences.
What will come next… who knows?!
